In today’s digital environment, identity has effectively become the new security perimeter. The majority of successful cyber incidents no longer begin with infrastructure compromise, but with the misuse or theft of legitimate credentials. Over-privileged accounts, toxic combinations of entitlements, dormant users, and poorly governed service accounts significantly increase the attack surface. At the same time, organizations are extending access to cloud platforms, third-party providers, and federated ecosystems, often without fully understanding the accumulated exposure this creates. Machine identities now outnumber human ones, yet they frequently lack ownership, lifecycle governance, and monitoring. The result is a fragmented identity landscape where access is granted faster than it is controlled.
If identity is the new perimeter, then unmanaged identity risk is no longer a technical gap — it is a strategic vulnerability capable of disrupting operations, eroding trust, and directly impacting the organization’s financial and regulatory standing.
